Frequently Asked Questions

What is a prepared lawn?

The more attention you give to preparing your new lawn, the better success you will have. There are no shortcuts to a healthy lawn.

Remove all existing grass, rocks and weeds. Loosen topsoil to a depth of 4 to 6 inches with a rototiller. If topsoil is brought in, use a minimum of 3 inches and incorporate into existing soil. Roll the area lightly for a smooth surface. We recommend an application of dolomite or agricultural grade limestone at the rate of 50 lbs. per 500 square feet. Rake area lightly.

How long before I can walk on the lawn?

It is best to stay off the lawn until it has been mowed the first time.

How long before I can use normal activity on the lawn?

Heavy use (children playing, dogs running, etc) should be restricted for approximately 3 months due to the potential damage to the root structure.

What about shade? How much sun does my yard need?

It depends on the seed blend being used. Please call our hydroseed department for further information.

Does it matter if the flowerbeds are already in?

Yes, it is actually preferred to have your plants, bark dust, etc., already in place to cut down on heavy use while the lawn is being established.

What information should I have before I call to get an estimate or place an order?

  • In way will the hydroseed area be used? (lawn, pasture, orchard)
  • Where is your property located? (Portland, Seattle, Eugene)
  • What is your square footage? See how to get measurements
  • Is your area accessible to a large truck? Room to park on the street?
